Youth Council campaign for a 3 in 1 concession card

In Brighton & Hove, cost is a factor in young people’s participation. This makes it inaccessible for the majority of young people to use the facilities and services available to them. To increase accessibility to services for young people the Youth Council are campaigning to get a 3 in 1 Concession Card introduced. The card will entitle young people to a discount in a range of shops and services; such as bus travel, shop discounts, library, leisure and entertainment facilities throughout the city. The card will be all-inclusive, more convenient and eco friendly as it will reduce the need for a number of different membership/discount cards. We believe that this needs to happen because it has many positive outcomes; local businesses will benefit, positively publicise young people, as well as providing young people with a place to go and possibly contribute to reducing youth crime! The 3 in 1 Card will also create an incentive for young people to participate in positive activities and be pro-active about their health. 750 young people across the city completed a survey to support the campaign and 97% of them said it was a good idea and would like one. Some local shops and services, such as the Jubilee Library and Big Lemon buses, have already agreed to support the card. Our next step is to get the backing of decision makers.
