MTV President Stephen Friedman had these kind words to say about the Oscar-winning actress: "Reese Witherspoon is one of the most versatile and accomplished performers of her time. Our viewers admire her for taking risks and for the breathtaking range of her roles. She fearlessly moves between dramas and comedies and always leaves everyone guessing what she'll do next." MTV's Generation award is a lifetime achievement award, and past recipients include Tom Cruise, Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, and Sandra Bullock. Witherspoon will be honored for her body of work, which includes a Best Actress Academy Award for her portrayal of June Carter Cash in 2005's Walk the Line. She also won the hearts of moviegoers as Elle Woods in Legally Blonde, which earned her an MTV Movie Award for Best Comedic Performance in 2002.
