Hitch Hiking Europe 2008 / 2009

Before years when the author was a student, he was a hitch hiker. He crossed all around Bulgaria, but he found some difficulties to travel hitch hiking in Europe in that time. Now when Bulgaria is a member of the European Union it is easier for him to realize this idea. With this project Neno pays his tribute to hippie movement. description: The author of the project has traveled from Bulgaria to Spain by hitch hiking and films all the drivers, who took him in their cars. He has made them video-interviews and photos. Neno has discussed with the drivers about these questions, which are these subtopics: 1. the meaning of communism and postcommunism and the significance of the revolutions 2. borders: disintegration of old unions, creation of new ones, territorial re-mappings, wars (example: what happens in Saraevo) 3. their opinion about the European Union 4. and what they think about the new members Bulgaria and Rumania, how they see their place in the union. The author has the idea to exhibit the project as a video installation – every video-interview with a driver on a different monitor and a lot of photos on the walls of the exhibiting space. aims: The project aims by crossing the South Europe (starting from Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, France to Spain) to create a live picture of the people, who live in the South Europe, about their opinions and their thoughts and of course, about the opinion about Bulgaria. The people who the author have interviewed were be only drivers, who take hitchhikers in their cars. This is very specific field and it couldn’t be an official image of thinking for the South European people, but it is interesting to know what this specific area thinks about that. For hin also is interesting, that he didn’t make the choice of the people, who gave the interviews - the choice actually has been made by the drivers by taking him in their cars.
