We still have 2 ½ days at sea after leaving Stockholm to recover from the intensive activity of the past 5 days, so the cruise is not quite over. Contrary to the original cruise itinerary, we were unable to sail into Stockholm harbour -- one of the most picturesque in the world. There are apparently too many cruise ships in the area, so we had to moor about an hour south of the city in the port of Nynashamn. This also meant that we needed to change our two half day tours into a full day tour, as we couldn't get back to the changeover point in time. After the hour driving into Stockholm, our bus driver stopped to pick up our guide for the day, Katrin. Since it was the Swedish National Day, she had come dressed in a traditional blue and yellow costume and welcomed us by singing the Swedish National Anthem. She was the most unusual guide we have encountered on our travels. At one point during the day, she entertained us with an hilarious stand-up act, in which she demonstrated the various Swedish dialects and contrasted them with the Norwegian, Danish and Finnish languages (for example, she said Danes speak as if they have a mouthful of sausages -- and then spoke ...
