Gold Coast, Australia (Tuesday 8th March, 2011): HAWAIIAN surfer Carissa Moore is the new queen of Snapper Rocks, surging to victory over Aussie rookie Tyler Wright (Lennox Head, NSW) in today’s final of the Roxy Pro presented by Land Rover on the Gold Coast. After first rocketing to stardom when she made the final of the Roxy Pro as a 14-year-old wildcard back in 2007, Moore returned to where it all began and surfed away with the ultimate prize. The 18-year-old now moves to No.1 on the ASP Women's World Tour rankings, ending more than two years of dominance by four-time world champion Stephanie Gilmore, who had owned top spot since August 2008. Moore said she has always wanted victory at Snapper Rocks. In a breakthrough day for women's surfing, massive scores and cutting edge manoeuvres dominated the final day and young Moore reigned supreme. Moore posted a combined two-wave score of 15.34 to 16-year-old Wright (Lennox Head, NSW) in the decider with 14.37. The final reached fever pitch when Moore used her priority to spoil what would have been a near certain perfect 10-point barrel ride for Wright and ultimately seal the win. The victory is Moore's fourth on the ASP World Tour, including wins in New Zealand and Portugal last season en route to finishing the year No.3 in the rankings.
