News Update: Yahoo Inc. - Microsoft Corp. Search Pact Expected to Transition Worldwide by Q2 2012

05/26/2010 - An executive at Yahoo Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) said Wednesday that the company’s online search pact with Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT) is yielding "excellent" results. The two companies are currently running tests to integrate Yahoo and Microsoft's platforms. However, Yahoo's senior vice president Mark Morrissey said that since the testing is still in its early stages, and the companies cannot yet tell whether they will be able to launch the transition in the US and Canada by the end of 2010; Yahoo officials did say that they expect a global transition to commence by Q2 of 2012. Morrissey showed a Yahoo search results page with results given by Microsoft's search engine Bing to an audience at Yahoo's investor day in San Jose, California. "The good news is this working, the relevance is excellent and the quality of the results is where we want to be," Morrissey said. Morrissey explained that Yahoo and Microsoft will not move paid and algorithmic search to Microsoft's platforms till they are sure that doing so will ensure a "quality transaction," and that right now, "it's too early to predict if we can transition this year or not." Shares of Yahoo are trading down 2.99% at $25.46, as are shares of Microsoft, which are down 2.88% at $25.47.
