We found a hotel right across the street from the beach with ac and hot water for $11 per night. There is also an internet café and restaurant attached which is a nice bonus. After traveling for a month we were ready for some time to relax at the beach. We got on our bathing suits and headed out towards the beach. The beach itself looks a lot like the beaches in North Carolina with one exception, the beaches here are absolutely covered with trash. I read a lot about the beaches beforehand and nowhere did it mention the litter problem around the beaches. The trash is really limited to the beach and for the most part the water seems to be fairly clean. There are restaurants set up all along the beachfront, all offering lounge chairs. After seeing the sand we decided to relax in these chairs instead. The water was really nice, warm with some waves but they were not too big. After swimming for a while we got out to lay down and have some drinks. Like Phnom Penh there are a lot of beggars here. For the most part though the kids do not really ask for money, they ask for your used cans and bottles which they can get money for by recycling.
