David and Katz managed to catch us at the last minute to say goodbye, and we sped off across the sea...(name). The journey took about an hour, and it was baltic!! Puerto Barrios is not the best place to hing aboot, so after checking in with Immigration (200 yards up the road from the quay!), we headed to the market and caught a bus to Chiquimula. The bus was loaded with more coconuts and plantains than people, but we made it to our destination late in the afternoon. Not exactly a tourist destination, Chiquimula was at least a decent stopover on our way to El Salvador. The place was very busy especially the market, and there was loads of stalls around the square. For eating there wasn´t much, and we ate almost every night in the ´Chinese/steakhouse´ restaurant next to our hotel - Hernandez, which had a grotty swimming pool. The hotel was fine really, notable only for the son´s knowledge of Scottish film actors, and their ability to lose our laundry - we found it still on the line on the top floor of the adjoining building! We had a day out to nearby Esquipulas, which was celebrating big Catholic style the religious festival of El Cristo Negro - a statue of Christ carved from black wood in 1595 ...
