Not for fear of our lives, but our tyres. It can only be reached by driving 150K on an unsealed (think BMX track) road. Our beloved van simply couldn't have coped. But before you all scoff: Yeah right, you were worried about the campervan! let me just clear some of this Wolf Creek lark up. Firstly, it's spelt Wolfe Creek. Wolfe Creek Crater Reserve. Secondly, the film is loosely based on the backpacker murders of the '90s...which happened in New South Wales. Distance wise, that's like murders happening in Athens and a film making out they happened in Edinburgh. Thirdly, it wasn't even filmed at Wolfe Creek Crater Reserve. The crater those characters visit is actually in Undara Volcanic National Park, in Queensland. A crater that coincidentally we walked around when we were there, unaware at the time. It was such a lame walk I didn't bother mentioning it in my blog post. We did stop for photos under the sign though, which uses the film spelling (and I suspect this isn't entirely accidental), and that was the highlight of a few very dull days dominated by driving. We had left Keep River National Park two days before and soon crossed the border into Western Australia.
