7月4日から10日までの7日間に、全国で4,520人が熱中症で病院に搬送された。2011年は梅雨明けが記録的に早く、すでに真夏の暑さの中で、節電という影響もあり、2010年の同じ時期に比べて、およそ5倍の多さとなっている。また、東京都心では、12日夜も熱帯夜の予報だが、電力に余裕のある夜間にも冷房を使わず、熱中症になる高齢者なども増えているという。専門家は、無理は禁物と呼びかけている。猛烈な暑さが続き、全国21カ所で猛暑日となった日本列島。東京・新宿区にある戸山団地は、2,300戸のうち、65歳以上の高齢者世帯が半数を占めるという。午後8時すぎ、気温はまだ30度と蒸し暑い。団地では、多くの部屋ですだれがかけられていて、窓をよく見ると、開いてる部屋が多く見られた。さらに、ある部屋では、節電のためか、部屋の電気を暗くして、テレビだけがつけられていた。節電ムードが高まる中、エアコンをつけずに窓を開けて暑さを我慢する高齢者たち。団地に住む76歳の男性の部屋では、節電対策としてエアコンは使わず、窓を開け、扇風機を回すだけだった。76歳の男性は「大体10時ごろまでは開けて。だから、風通しはいいですから」と話した。手元の温度計では、部屋の温度が31度となっていた。76歳の男性は「そんなに温度高いと思わなかった」と話した。部屋の温度は、外の気温よりも高い31度。男性は熱帯夜にもかかわらず、寝るときにもエアコンはつけないという。76歳の男性は「(暑さで体調崩されたこととかないですか?)今まで。ないねぇ。きょう午前中、庭の花壇の草取り1時間ぐらいやったけど、別に」と話した。節電のためと、エアコンの使用を我慢してしまう人が増えると、懸念されるのが、いわゆる「節電熱中症」の増加。12日、総務省消防庁が発表したデータによると、熱中症による救急搬送は、2010年より大幅に増加している。6月の搬送人数は、およそ3倍となっている。先週の搬送は2010年の同じ時期のおよそ5倍となる4,520人となり、そのうち8人が死亡したという。午後8時半すぎ、東京・品川区の昭和大学病院に、熱中症の疑いで女性が搬送されてきた。熱中症でこの病院に搬送される人数は、2010年の同じ時期のおよそ4倍だという。熱中症にくわしい、昭和大学病院・救命救急センターの三宅康史准教授は「電力需給がやっぱりひっ迫した状態が続いてですね、運悪く暑い夏が長くなれば、あの暑かった去年以上の患者数に達する危...
