The 34-year-old mother’s body was found in a closet near a safe in her home. A large amount of cash was discovered missing from the safe, police said. Since Mitchell's slaying, someone has written an anonymous letter to police and nasty rumors about the case have spread. Attorney Larry Cassil said people should wait for the truth to come out. "I've been practicing law for 46 years," he said. "I know people jump to conclusions." He said that on the night of Mitchell's death, her husband was traveling to California for a golf and business trip. He said that Teddy Mitchell tried to call his wife during a stop in Arizona, but wasn't able to reach her. He said Teddy Mitchell then called his mother and his son. "He called his son, Daniel, and he went over there," said Cassil. "Daniel is the one who discovered the body." He said Daniel also found the couple's 13-month-old baby in the closet near Julie Mitchell's body. He said Daniel grabbed the baby and called police. "When Daniel told Teddy that (he thought) his wife had committed suicide, (Teddy) chartered a plane and flew back to Oklahoma City," Cassil said. Cassil said that furniture was delivered to the Mitchell home at about 7:30 p.m. and that Julie Mitchell was there to answer the door. He said she was killed sometime between the time of that delivery and when her stepson discovered the body less than three hours later. Cassil said there were tens of thousands of dollars taken from the family safe. He said that might be what the killer was after. Police seized evidence from the scene, including possible murder weapons. "Teddy has given them all the information that he can," Cassil said. "(They've) got his computer and cell phone.
