はやぶさカプセル、羽田到着　宇宙科学研で開封へ

　小惑星探査機「はやぶさ」が地球に持ち帰ったカプセルが１７日夜、東京・羽田空港に到着した。帰還地の豪州南部ウーメラの空港からチャーター機で運ばれた。　飛行機から下ろされたカプセル入りのコンテナはすぐにトラックに載せられ、宇宙航空研究開発機構の宇宙科学研究所（神奈川県相模原市）へ。小惑星「イトカワ」の砂粒が入っている可能性があり、Ｘ線で内部の破損がないかどうかなどを調べた後に開封する。　カプセルを日本に運んだ安部正真准教授は報道陣に「初めてカプセルを見た時、キラキラ輝いていて宝物だと思った」と語った。　大量の砂粒が入っていれば、イトカワのものだとすぐに判断できる。しかし微量だと、打ち上げ前からカプセルに入っていた地球上の物質と区別する必要がある。こうした分析に、長くて半年程度かかるかもしれないという。
