In your grocery store, the higher the fat level, the more u will have to pay. Anyone, in school age or older, should drink non fat milk aka skim milk. These skim milk are not only cheap, they are nutritious as well. But this milk also contains fewer calories and cholesterol with them. The type of milk to be used varies from person to person. • Children under 12 months can’t even digest cow’s milk. • Children between ages of 12-24 months should drink whole milk. • Once kids turn 3, they need to be whined off the whole milk, they should be given low fat milk. • When children reach to full age, you can begin to give them non fat milk. Milk fat is not the only important factor in milk quality; you should also look for the milk that has been pasteurized. The pasteurized milk does not contain any harmful micro-organism. Milk needs to be stored in an air tight container. The proper storage temperature for milk is about 40 degrees Fahrenheit. You should never freeze your milk; this will change both the consistency and flavor of the milk. Milk can generally last for about 2 weeks after pasteurization, only if it is stored properly. It’s common for milk to be fortified with vitamin A and D. Extra vitamin D helps the body to absorb more calcium.
