This is the latest in Slaughter’s best-selling series of thrillers set in Georgia with pediatrician, Dr. Sara Linton, as the main character. Slaughter’s books are thrillers of the finest kind. Lots of crackling suspense (high on the violence meter so be forewarned), blistering sexual tension and characters we really care about. In this book, an FBI agent arrives at her mother’s house to pick up her baby, finds the newborn in her car-seat locked in the garage, a dead man in the laundry room, the house under siege, and her mother missing. The story never lets up from there. “Spiralâ€* by Paul McEuen This debut scientific thriller starts in WWII with the bombing of a Japanese warship to stop the release of a bio-weapon and ends in a battle with tiny robots inside a human body. In between there’s the murder of a Nobel Prize winning scientist, and the possible spread of a deadly virus in the US. The scientist’s granddaughter and great grandson try to figure out who murdered their grandfather and how his death relates to the disappearance of a batch of dangerous sophisticated nanorobots (miniature robots that can handle tasks too small or too dangerous for humans). The author is actually a world-renowned physicist and he can tell a great story too. I found this to be a fascinating, believable, and because it was so believable, a terrifying read.
