Pièce de theâtre de Claude-André Puget réalisée pour la télévision par François Gir sur la pittoresque figure de Valentin le désossé, célèbre danseur et contorsionniste du bal du Moulin Rouge. Ce clerc de notaire tranquille qui pendant vingt ans n’a lâché ni les dossiers poussiéreux de son étude, ni la petite bourgeoise qu'il a épousée, file un beau jour vers les flons flons et les filles faciles qui l'attirent et l'attendent en haut de la butte Montmartre. - Les premières scènes de la pièce se passent dans l'étude du notaire, Jules Renaudot, à Sceaux, qui n'est pas fâché de léguer ses affaires à son neveu Valentin et regrette de n'avoir pu mener une existence plus aventureuse et plus fantaisiste. Au moins, Valentin semble prêt à mener une vie qui lui convient en reprenant l'etude de son oncle et en étant fiancé à sa cousine Lucie, parfaite petite bourgeoise rangée que l'on voit en compagnie de sa mère, personnage tout aussi petit bourgeois mais très extravertie, qui s'etonne que les "deux tourtereaux" soient aussi sages. - D'autres scènes se déroulent à la "Reine Blanche", cabaret de Montmartre où Valentin mène une double vie, le soir, de danseur et où il retrouve Mirabelle, une danseuse qu'il aime. Mais Valentin ne veut pas l'épouser, Mirabelle représentant son "impossible" et Lucie reçoit une lettre anonyme qui lui révèle la double vie de son futur mari. - Les années passent (15 ans); on retrouve Valentin, notaire, ayant épousé Lucie et ayant renoncé pour toujours à sa vie de danseur. Jusqu'au jour, où une danseuse,"Gueule d'amour", faisant partie d'un nouveau cabaret, le "Moulin rouge", se rend à l'étude de Valentin en lequel elle reconnaît le célèbre "Valentin le désossé". Après avoir résisté un temps, Valentin décide cette fois de quitter sa vie de notaire, sa femme et sa tante - qui, les années passant, perd la tête - pour redevenir danseur ou Moulin Rouge. Il laisse un papier sur son bureau "Je lève le pied" .
