Travelintommy’s travel blog entry: "We're here after a looong (interesting, but uneventful) flight! The temperature here is 105 degrees. After arriving, we then had a long bus ride to our hotel room. The mountain scenery was beautiful! We saw shepherds with their flocks of sheep, and Bedoin settlements. Lots of caves in the hills. All Israelis must serve at least two years in the military, called the IDF. We stopped on the way to the hotel to grab something to eat, and there were several very young soldiers with very big guns eating there. I asked a table of girls if I could take their picture, and they said I could. Then we finally arrived at our hotel at the Dead Sea. At 1350 feet below sea level, the mineral heavy Dead Sea is the lowest point on Earth and it's impossible to sink in it because of the salt content. Sodom and Gomorrah were located in the southern portion of the Dead Sea. God "rained down burning sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah...and the entire plain" (Genesis 18-19). Abraham's nephew Lot and his daughters escaped, but Lot's wife looked back and became a pillar of salt. We went into the Dead Sea, and it really is impossible to sink!
