www.Dahl.com www.Dahl.com www.Dahl.com www.Dahl.com Part 1: From September 12, 1980 here is The Steve Dahl Breakfast Club, the first syndicated free-form ('shock jock') radio as heard on WLUP FM 98, as well as on a number of ABC Radio stations around the country, including WABX - Detroit, Michigan; WQFM - Milwaukee, Wisconsin; KPAS - El Paso, Texas; KROQ - Los Angeles, California, and others within the ABC Radio network at that time. The show is not complete, it cuts off at the end of part 2, but it’s a great glimpse into some of the truly pioneering work that Steve Dahl (and Garry Meier) did which created the so-called 'shock radio' era in the late 70's/early 80's. This show was recorded (and pressed onto vinyl and distributed to the various ABC stations) from the Tip-Top-Tap at the historic Allerton Hotel in Chicago, but this particular episode is from the Carnegie Theater in Detroit, Michigan. The "Breakfast Club" show actually originated from the Tip-Top-Tap at the Allerton Hotel with host Don McNeill up until the late 60's. Obviously, Steve Dahl's version of The Breakfast Club was much different, and came from a very familiar historic Chicago venue, but Steve reinvigorated the concept of a live radio show, many of which are common these days but were practically non existent in the late 70's.
