Lauraandcarl’s travel blog entry: "Having stopped briefly in Cordoba, we finaly completed another mammouth 33 hour journey to arrive in Mendoza in the west of Argentina about midnight last Thursday. Awaking the next day we were quick to realise it was St.Patricks day and set about finding ourselves the obligitory Irish bar that every city in the world seems to have, soon we had found one. The authenticity of its Irish origins were questionable at best but at least it was playing U2 and the boomtown rats and unlike many other Imitation Irish bars in South America, this one actually sold Guiness! (even if it was bottled!). Mendoza is a beautiful city with a population of arond 150000 according to the guide books, but it feels like more due to the fact that all the bars and resteraunts anywhere near the centre always seem to be buzzing. Mendoza also has a great Zoo which we visited over the weekend and with the exeption of the cage the Pumas were kept in (may have been a temporary thing) all the animals had quite big enclosures and seemed happy as you can be to be permanentley locked away. Mendoza has over 1200 winerys in its vacinity producing over 300000000 litres of wine a year! (enough to get anyone slightly sozzled!). Today we took a tour fom our hostel (La casa de bode) and visited 2 of these winerys, Don Arturo ...
