Blimey, after 8 months worth of travel we've kind of taken it for granted that we can just turn up somewhere new and feel as right as rain... mainly because we've had such short or well-scheduled flights. Well this time we had a 10.5hr flight from Fiji into LA and it didn't leave until 22.15. Then to confuse matters even more even though it was a 10.5 hr flight we still managed to arrive in LA 9 hours before we left Fiji (??). Yes, we crossed the international date line so February 27th became the longest day ever. Lovely. So welcome to the US of A. We made it! Have to admit that we weren't particularly looking forward to going thru customs. You hear all the nightmare stories of how rude and difficult they can be and with a passport full of China and Vietnamese stamps we didn't want any hassle. Air New Zealand were great though. They gave us all the forms that needed to be filled in as soon as we boarded the plane and then scared us all by repeatedly saying that just one mistake on the form, or a crossout, would mean you go to the back of the queue. So they were constantly checking what everyone had done and issuing new forms if we got it a bit wrong. Anyhow, the result was that we ...
