"Social Media and the Media"- Connecticut Social Media Breakfast- April 2011

From recent events in the Middle East to the tragedy in Japan and daily events in our communities, social media has become a presence, influencer and powerful source in how we approach the news. On April 15, 2011, Quinnipiac University hosted Connecticut Social Media Breakfast’s panel discussion, "Social Media and the Media." The panelists included: Rich Hanley, moderator, joined the Quinnipiac University School of Communications faculty in 2001 after a 23-year career as a journalist, including a stint at Time magazine. He is presently an assistant professor of Journalism and Graduate Journalism Program Director for the School of Communications. Hanley is a frequent contributor of opinion pieces in national and global media and is widely sought for his comments on the news media, the internet and popular culture. He is a six-time Emmy nominee for his television documentaries. Tim Malloy is a 33 year veteran of local, and network television news. He has traveled the world as a reporter and cameraman, reported from war zones , covered earthquakes, hurricanes, Presidential campaigns, domestic riots and terror attacks on US soil. He has covered the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan as an embedded journalist, filed live TV reports, blogged with viewers and wrote long form articles for the internet from Iraq and Afghanistan.
