What We Do Now

Panelists talked about the book edited by Dennis Johnson and Valerie Merians, What We Do Now, published by Melville House Publishing. The book was a collection of essays written by progressives in response to President Bush’s 2004 election victory. Among the issues they addressed were the future of the Democratic Party, the role of the U.S. in the world, social and cultural issues, and uniting the American electorate. Panelists were: Greg Palast, author of The Best Democracy Money Can Buy: The Truth About Corporate Cons, Globalization and High-Finance Fraudsters, published by Plume; John MacArthur, author of The Selling of "Free Trade": NAFTA, Washington, and the Subversion of American Democracy, published by University of California Press; Esther Kaplan, author of With God on Their Side: How Christian Fundamentalists Trampled Science, Policy, and Democracy in George W. Bush's White House, published by New Press; and Robin Morgan, author of The Demon Lover: The Roots of Terrorism, published by Washington Square Press.
