Kurt Rohrig beschäftigt sich seit 20 Jahren mit der Energieversorgung aus erneuerbaren Quellen. Er forscht am Fraunhofer-Institut für Windenergie und Energiesystemtechnik in Kassel. DW-TV: Herr Rohrig, das Super-Grid, ein Ökostrom-Netzwerk durch ganz Europa und Nordafrika, ist das eine überteuerte Megaleitung, die zu einem Energiemonopol führt, oder eine clevere Idee? Kurt Rohrig: Das Super-Grid ist ein ganz wichtiges Stück im Puzzle, was wir aufbauen müssen, um Europa ohne Kohlenstoffe und ohne CO2-Emissionen energetisch versorgen zu können. Wir brauchen in Zukunft einen massiven Ausbau der erneuerbaren Energien und die müssen miteinander vernetzt werden und da spielt das Super-Grid eine zentrale Rolle. Können wir denn wirklich auskommen ohne fossile Brennstoffe? Ja, wir haben das in verschiedenen Studien und Simulationen genau berechnet. Wir haben berechnet, wie viel Transportkapazität, wie viele Stromnetze und wie viel Speicher sind erforderlich, um Lücken zu schließen, wenn ich eine längere Flaute überbrücken muss und wenn nachts, wie gewohnt, die Sonne nicht scheint. Das ist ja genau das Problem. Wie kann man denn Windenergie beispielsweise verlässlich machen? Anders gefragt, können sie mir garantieren, dass mein Kühlschrank auch funktioniert, wenn Flaute ist? Wir können bis zu 8 Stunden europaweit durch ein starkes Stromnetz ausgleichen. Wenn wir durch Tiefdruckgebiete in Spanien oder Norddeutschland eine Flaute haben, dann wird Strom aus Spanien, der dort vorher in Überschüssen produziert wird, bis nach Deutschland geleitet, oder umgekehrt. Deshalb können wir kleinere oder mittlere Flauten leicht überbrücken, größere Flauten müssen dann mit Speicherkraftwerken und anderen Medien ausgeglichen werden.
