DemandCon 2011 - Christopher Justice - Keynote

DemandCon was founded in 2010, after co-founders Steve Gershik and Shawn Elledge sat in the back of the room at yet another marketing conference and said to each other "there has to be a better way to teach and learn about marketing and sales!" In that overly air conditioned windowless ballroom, Gershik and Elledge invented the principles which now guide the DemandCon organization: 1. Everyone who presents at DemandCon must teach, not promote a business. 2. Everyone who attends DemandCon has a responsibility to learn, and then to take what they’ve learned back to their organization & community. 3. Guns don't kill people. Endless PowerPoint presentations kill people. 4. If people are ducking out of sessions to check their email, the conference isn't very good. 5. Delegates have a right to leave the show feeling smarter than when they arrived. 6. Sponsors are not just sources of money, they are sources of knowledge. 7. Information wants to be free. After the show, we must share what we've learned. 8. We will actively recruit students from business programs around the country and provide them free access to the show and speakers in exchange for their pledge to teach what they've learned to their peers and professors. 9. We reserve the right to change the agenda if new ideas come up that need to be explored. 10. Marketers and sales people are fun by nature. The show we invent must be fun, playful and creative.
