Lotus flowers watching at Tsurugaoka-Hatimanngu Shrine, Kamakura

Tsurugaoka-Hatimangu Shrine at Kamakura is famous for lotus flowers blooming in July and August. There are two big ponds on the right side and left side of the main street and they are now filled with lotus flowers. On the right pond pink lotus floweres bloom and on the left pond white lotus flowres bloom. It is said that pink flowers means victory of Gengji family and followres and white flowers means the retreat and Heishi family and followers. Tsurugaoka-Hatimangu Shrine is bulit in the early of Kamakura Era, around ad1200. It is build by the order of Yoritomo Minamoto, the leader of Genji family and followers, to pray for the easy delivery of his wife Masako Houjyo. Masako prayed for the prosperity of Genji family and Retreat of Heishi family and she made these two ponds as the signification of her desire. Over 800 years these lotus flowers had been the witnesses of the history.
