2010 GHSA Competitive Season Pick of the Week: Week #5

I had the chance to see this routine live last week at the 8th Annual Duluth Cat’s Classic competition. I was pumped to see that they were on the list. For the first time in as far back as I can remember, this team has gone all-girl. Everyone is familiar with their years of domination of the AAAAA (before there was a COED) division back in the early 2000's. The last few years have seen them come along under a new coach and each year has been a progressive improvement. Based on this performance I think they're looking the best I've seen them in the last 3 years. The coaching staff, led by Cappy Douglas, is doing a FANTASTIC job. Shiloh is making a strong statement that they belong back on the short list of dominant teams in AAAAA. Let's take a look at the routine: * First, and I'll be honest, I missed this from my vantage point at the DJ booth, that opening formation is really clever. It brings almost a marching-band flavor to the routine that makes it stand out from a crowd. Of course, the immense amounts of ATTITUDE, particularly by the young lady at the very front, really help sell this.  (It's actually a shame that the judges were positioned on the floor at Duluth because you really don't appreciate what's going on here without being slightly elevated.) * The 3 fulls coming to the front are massive punch that let's you know the SWAT team is back and FOR.REAL! * Taking that into 5 stunt groups, in all-girl? NICE! Ideally, I'm hoping that little sequence picks up some transitions to add to the difficulty. This was Shiloh's first competition so I suspect we'll see this progress in the coming weeks. If I'm right, look out! * The jumps are really clean and synchronized, these ladies can jump! * I also like the transition afterward into the running tumbling. It has a bit of an all*star flair without being too busy or distracting. It keeps the focus right where it needs to be and makes the judge's job easy. They've got a respectable amount of fulls ...
