Spoken Word Poetry - On Me

on me My nights are flooded with 80-proof shots. They drown my brain while thoughts wave at planes stuck waiting on rooftops. Her mind is full of failed levees. Her inhibitions flow steady through the streets drowning future memories of spinning cabs rides and raves with white tee’s and black lights. She's the straight edge my mind wraps around. My serpentine thoughts drip venom in her glass And could melt away her skinny denim pants with a splash. But they don't. And last night we got drunk... I swear, I swore off drinking but last night drinking swore on me — one hand at its side, one hand on it's heart, last night drinking pledged allegiance to the whole bar -- the nine o'clock tipsies, the ten o'clock drunks, the miniskirt gypsies, the college kids stuck up to their knees in friend-zone-quicksand -- too scared to make a move. And I swear I'll make a move next time. Not another chapter blown. Not another night acting as a male chaperone. And if the wind throws caution back at her, I'll shoot it down with another round, on me.
