Chase pits police against 23 y.o. with Camaro
k-o-b eyewitness news four got some dramatic dashcam video today. it shows an hour long car chase outside las vegas, with a driver who managed to avoid several spike strips, and nearly hits officers. gadi schwartz reviewed the video today... and joins us live from santa fe with more. gadi? i’ve edited down more than an hour of video from police dashboard minute thumbnail 06:33 pm cameras that filmed a car that just wouldn't stop. what your about to see is the most harrowing parts of this very dangerous high speed chase . be advised he is at the 339 a brand new camero flies by- police in hot pursuit the camero pulls into the median to avoid spike strips an officer draws his gun and the camero revs its engine. then one of governor richardson's security detail blocks the camero in and tries to break his windows with his gun ... give me a baton i don't have one the plain clothed officer then bolts over to get the spike strips to put under the camero- while another officer tries breaking the driver's window after hitting it several times with his gun barrel. but the tires are still inflated and the chase continues. here is video from 2 squad cars involved in minute thumbnail 06:34 pm the chase as the camero leaves the road he is going into oncoming traffic its going into oncoming traffic- he is northbound in the southbound lanes for almost 40 minutes the car dodges spike strips at least 5 times and comes dangerously close to officers. it accelerates around units - even off the road... sometimes speeding over 125 miles an hour. finally, the left tires run over some spikes- smoke coming from the driver side. he got both driver side tires both front and back back off back off but the driver still doesn't pull over- until a couple more spike strips finish the job. it looks like all tires are inoperable at this time he is losing control. after an hour long chase -the camero is unable to go any further on sparking rims... and officers move, in taking out a window with a ...
