The SSD helps speed up your overall computer experience, it's not necessary, but nice to have! The i5 2400 is a faster processor, but with the SSD in there it will balance it out for the most part. Another option would be to grab a $30-$40 case and use the extra $40 for 8gb of ram (although 4gb is plenty) or Grab a 1TB hard drive. I don't really find upgrading the video card above a 6870 necessary untill you hit the $325 GTX 570 since the performance gap is so small.
