District attorney wants better ways to prosecute raves

district attorney kari brandenburg says something needs to change when it comes to illegal raves in albuquerque. kob eyewitness news four has learned she wants to create a law-- putting more accountabilityn rave promoters. kayla anderson is live at metro court to explain. the man accused of holding a massive rave downtown, in a building that wasn’t up to fire code, will be here in metro court tomorrow-- facing misdemeanor charges. the d-a says people like that need to be held accountable-- and take steps to hold legal raves, in a safe environment. kenneth pintor is expected to represent himself in court tomorrow. he's accused of throwing this rave in a rented- out warehouse in downtown albuquerque. "there were a lot of underage kids drinking, possibly taking drugs. it was really an unsafe thing for a number of reasons." the fire marshal's office found critical fire code violations. pintor is now facing misdemeanor charges. "fire code violations. they had more people then they were allowed to have in the venue. they didn't have a permit, and so there were a number of illegal things that occurred." this is the first rave case that's been referred to the d-a's office. normally the d-a wouldn't get involved in cases with misdemeanor charges but the d-a wants to change that. "we have been working to try to get a rave law in place, so that we have more teeth to deal with these kinds of issues because this really poses a threat to our youth in bernalillo county." the law would place more accountability on people who want to throw raves-- attended by teens. it would require rave promoters to pass a background check... and they would also have to alert police on where and when they're throwing a rave. the d-a wants to work with state lawmakers next year to get the law passed. i contacted kenneth pintor for a comment ahead of his court hearing here tomorrow-- but he says he's been advised not to talk to the media. reporting live at metro court kayla anderson, kob eyewitne...
