I had heard that it was just basically a big dirty city with not much else to offer than the port. Fortunately, my experience and impression was so much better! The hotel I found on Expedia was an excellent first stop. It offered a huge room (big enough for 4-5 people to do yoga), with fridge, nice terrace where we hung our hand washed clothes to dry and a shower big enough to actually bend over and shave legs (grateful for the simple pleasures). The location was good too because the bus and the grocery store were just a few steps away. Also within walking distance was a welcomed treat...a great Spanish restaurant! We dined here 3 of the 4 nights, enjoying the atmosphere, staff and food. The first night i spotted a dish called "Shrimp Fiamma" and in honor of my last WWOOF host, i ordered and enjoyed it very much. I think i mentioned that Italy is very proud of it's food, right? As a foreigner, I found it difficult to find other varieties of food here...we are spoiled in America where alomost every town has some samplings of different varieties of food, i was foolish enough to think it was that way in most places in the world.
