Waimarama! - Te Awanga, New Zealand

We are now in Waimarama, which is a funny name for a town. It is actually a tiny surfing village right on the Pacific Ocean, with only a few houses, one shop and one cafe. We are staying in a cool beach house, only steps away from the beach. We can hear the waves crashing all night long and all day long. It is a good spot and is supposed to have the best point break for surfing in all of New Zealand. We will try it out later this week. Today, Mom, Lu and I went horseback riding with Waimarama Horse Treks. I was excited to go, but I did not realize how great it would be! We met Peter and his wife Colleen and their two year old daughter, Salem, at the foot of a mountain on Tuki Tuki road, which is right across from Te Mata peak. I got to ride a horse called Winter, who is part Quarter Horse and part Welsh Cob. She was beautiful but hte best part was that all of the horses are really well trained. They don’t use bits in the mouths, just a neck rein. Peter is a great trainer and he has 60 horses in all. We started up the path to the top of the mountain and had some amazing views. Once Peter saw how well we were riding, he let me take the lead! These horses don't have to follow in a straight line and I could take Winter anywhere, and make her stop or go anytime.
