Robert Louis Stevenson’s Poems, Novels Remembered on His 160th Birthday Today, November 13th, is the birthday of the writer of "Treasure Island." At the same time, many forget that Robert Louis Stevenson's poems need celebration, as well. Robert Louis Balfour Stevenson was born on the 13th of November, 1850. he died on December 3, 1894. He was a Scottish novelist, poet, essayist and travel writer. Among his best-known books are Treasure Island, Kidnapped, and (many forget) The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. This be the verse you grave for me: Here he lies where he longed to be; Home is the sailor, home from sea, And the hunter home from the hill. However, Wikipedia says that the Robert Louis Stevenson poem Requiem is often misquoted, and even his tomb is mis-inscribed. The final two lines, as on his tomb, read: Home is the sailor, home from the sea, And the hunter home from the hill.
