State of Search brings you the news on what has happened in search last week. A quick wrap up! Yahoo Japan going to be using… Google! A surprising move in Japan. Where Yahoo was just starting to integrate MS results last week in Japan Yahoo announced it will adopt Google’s search engine and advertisement delivery system and provide Google with its data. Yahoo Japan is not actually owned by Yahoo, which holds a 35 percent stake. The deal will make Google even more powerful in a fast growing Japanese market. Bing just entered the Japan market with its branded search, but it has only a small share there of almost three percent. WikiLeaks War Logs Mapped It caused a big uproar last week, the leakage of secret documents in the Afghan War on Wikileaks. What was interesting related to search topics was that Wikileaks made extensive use of Google Maps when publishing their ‘hot news’. Facebook Questions opens up, a little Last week finally Facebook Questions opened for a limited public. Facebook questions lets you pose questions like these to the Facebook community. Your question will then be ‘available’ for the Facebook community who can then answer. The service is not unique, there are more out there, like Yahoo Answers. But Facebook does have the most active community of them all. Tags allow you to browse through all the asked questions & answers. Be careful by the way, your questions are open to EVERYBODY, not just your friends. Bing Street Slide outplays Streetview Where Google is busy getting rid of law suits about Streetview, Bing just keeps on making new brilliant Maps stuff. At Siggraph 2010 Microsoft presented a high “WOW” factor: Street Slide. With Streetslide you can more easily get an overview of an entire street, see building numbers and company logos and more.
