Polonaise Heroic.wmv

Performance dedicated to heroes everywhere, from every walk of life. Those featured in this performance are military, beginning with James Doolittle, the Doolittle Raiders whose mission provided immeasurable inspiration for other heroes to rise to that occasion, take heart and face uncertain destiny, to the men and women who serve, ready to likewise put themselves in harms way for the cause of freedom. As a teen, I heard a recording of Josef Lhevinne play this, and dedicated months of practice only to octaves and wrists with the goal to play the E major section at his thrilling tempo. I met Rosina Lhevinne and studied everything her husband wrote on pianoforte playing. I play the E major section with one very loose, fluid circular motion of the left wrist, fingering notes of the bass 2, 3, 4, 5, with the thumb sliding down the octave mi, ri, di si. I am gifted with very flexible and loose wrists. The taps are almost nervous impulse, and I have to stay totally loose and relaxed, lest any tension produce knots and cramps that prematurely end it.
