福島第1原発事故で、東京電力は、3号機原子炉建屋内の作業環境を整えるため、放射線を遮る鉄板を床に敷き詰めた。3号機では、1日にロボットを使って、床に積もったほこりなどを取り除いたが、放射線量は高いままで、作業員が短時間しか中に入れない状態が続いている。このため東京電力は、3日に放射線を遮る鉄板を51枚、建屋の床に敷き詰めた。線量を3分の1程度に抑え込む効果が期待され、順調にいけば、東京電力は水素爆発を予防するため、8日にも原子炉への窒素注入に向けた工事を始める方針。一方、5号機では3日朝、原子炉を冷却するための海水ポンプのホースから水が噴き出しているのが見つかった。復旧作業のために、一時、原子炉の冷却が中断され、原子炉の水温がおよそ5度上昇したが、3時間半後に復旧した。
