It was the capital of Laos for 200 years or so. Now it is one of the United Nations "World Herritage Sites". The museum is the former royal palace of the kings of Laos. Great laid-back town; awesome night market. On the first full day there, Gwynn and I met Dan and some Dutch people heading to a waterfall. So we decided to join them to split the cost of the tuk-tuk ride out there and back. The waterfall was the best I've seen yet on my Asian adventure simply because you can swim in the cool pools at the base levels. They even had a rope swing that I used. Oh, and there was a bear wildlife sanctuary at the entrance. Really awesome tourist spot. And a great place in the countryside. There is a good hike up either side of the falls to get to the top. Awesome adventure. Another morning I got up at the crack of dawn to see the daily ritual of the procession of monks asking for alms. If you dont know, its the Buddhist tradition of monks not working, relying on the donations of the people for food, etc. This is a symbiotic relationship, because it allows the Bhuddist people to offer food...that way "making merrit" (do good deeds) so that they will have good karma in this life, and also building up karma so that their next life incarnation ...
