Coccinelle sous influence Garde manger puis garde du corps, tel est l'étrange destin de la coccinelle si elle se retrouve parasitée par une certaine guêpe. Une guêpe qui commence par pondre un oeuf à l’intérieur de la coccinelle. L'œuf se développe en mangeant des tissus de la coccinelle sans toutefois tuer cette dernière. Au bout de 20 jours, la larve s'extirpe de l'abdomen et s'enroule dans un cocon. Un cocon que la coccinelle s'empresse de cacher entre ses pattes. Car non contente d'avoir déjà servi de casse-croûte, voici que la coccinelle se met à défendre le glouton de tous les prédateurs éventuels. Un comportement qui serait causé par des sécrétions laissées par la larve. C'est en tout cas ce que viennent de montrer des chercheurs de Montpellier et de Montréal. D'après leur étude, les cocons ainsi gardés sont beaucoup moins vulnérables à la prédation que ceux laissés seuls. Cette stratégie est donc très avantageuse pour la guêpe. Néanmoins, elle a un coût. Car plus la guêpe produit des substances de protection, moins elle produit d'œufs... Quant à la coccinelle, toutes n'en sortent pas indemnes. Seulement 25% d'entre elles retrouvent un comportement normal lorsque la guêpe adulte émerge du cocon. Aéroports sous la neige Le trafic aérien pourrait accroître la quantité de neige qui tombe autour des grands aéroports internationaux. C'est ce que suggère une équipe américaine dans la revue « Science ». Et pour cause : quand un avion traverse certaines couches nuageuses, il créée des trous. Car, dans le sillon de ses réacteurs, la vapeur d'eau se condense, se cristallise et tombe sous forme d'eau ou de neige, comme sur cette image prise 60 minutes après le passage d'un avion.
