Holland Doc: Stand van de maan 14-09-2006

Titel: Stand van de maan - Documentaire over het dagelijkse leven van Rumidjah en haar familie in Indonesië. De 62-jarige weduwe Rumidjah woont in een volksbuurt in Jakarta samen met haar zoon Bakti en haar elfjarige kleindochter Tari. Sinds de val van president Soeharto zeven jaar geleden is Rumidjah getuige geweest van de wervelwind van politieke en sociale onrust die in haar land woedde. De grootste godsdienst van Indonesië, de islam, probeert de rust en vrede onder burgers in de stad te handhaven door ze te wijzen op het strenge waarden- en normenpatroon van de islam. Ook van niet-islamitische buurtbewoners wordt verwacht dat ze zich aan de islamitische regels houden. De christelijke Rumidjah gaat luchtig om met de verschillende godsdiensten. Wanneer ook haar tweede zoon Bakti zich tot de islam bekeert om zijn huwelijk met een islamitisch meisje erkend te krijgen kibbelt ze er lustig op los: blijft het kruis nu wel of niet aan de muur hangen in de woonkamer? In een gebed tot haar overleden grootmoeder vraagt ze haar om in de hemel zowel bij Jezus als Allah voor een goede oogst te pleiten. Naast het liefdevolle geruzie met haar zoon zien we Rumidjah de strijd aangaan met de woekeraarster die dreigt haar bankstel in beslag te nemen. Maar ook verstild met haar kleindochter dierbaren herdenken. De chaos in Jakarta wordt haar echter meer en meer te veel. Ze verlangt ernaar om samen met haar kleindochter Tari te verhuizen naar haar geboortedorp op het platteland. Maar in het kleine dorp op Midden-Java is er voor het meisje geen toekomst. Wanneer Rumidjah met de gezamenlijke inspanning van haar familie en dorpsgenoten haar huis heeft gerenoveerd zal ze een beslissing moeten nemen: met Tari op het platteland blijven of haar met haar oom Bakti terugsturen naar Jakarta om haar school af te maken.
