Signs of the Times In District 23 in NNY

iReport — The landscape has been transformed in the once unfamiliar upstate community of Northern New York’s 23RD District. National news used to refer to this area as the home of the 10th Mountain Division at Ft. Drum. Everyone knows where we are now. Now, it's a litmus test. We feel like we're in a petri dish when we just wanted to be left alone and conduct our own business. "Signs of things to come" appear in front yards and in front of campaign headquarters.  Outside interests have contributed to Conservative candidate Doug Hoffman's campaign. These interests clearly have their own agenda and it's not one of concern for this community. It's a test from the more conservative fringe of the GOP on the GOP in general and will play itself out tomorrow on Election Day. What's at stake is the future of the once great Republican Party.  Rush Limbaugh and other Conservatives feel they have the right to anoint an unknown candidate and with enough money, oust the nominated GOP candidate, and have their guy, Doug Hoffman become our representative to Congress in OUR 23RD District.. They say all politics are local.  If that were truly the case, then DeDe Scozzafava wouldn't have been "handed her hat and shown the door." Watertown may not be America's next Lexington and Concord yet, but with all the attention this issue is receiving, Republicans should think carefully about whether this "less inclusive stance" advocated by Conservatives like Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin is the course they want to take into the 2010 elections. During the beginning of the last American Revolution,many colonists rejected the right of the Parliment of Great Britain to govern them , without representation. A large percentage of the colonists actively supported the rebellion while 15–20% of the population of the thirteen colonies remained loyal to the "Crown". The rest of the colonists tried to remain neutral until it became clear, that "independence" was the correct course of action.
