Original poetry recorded during an open mike at the Mercury Cafe, Denver CO, 07-28-10. full poem: Universal God My Higher Power has no image — It teaches me through observation My Higher Power has no church -- It can be found in any building, any forest, any living creature, and any broken heart. My Higher Power stands the test of time -- and I can hear it in the passing water of the river, and I can smell it in the wind and I can look upon a rock and know that it is also needed and is beautiful My Higher Power can’t be bound in books The Torah, Gospel or Koran -- they're all important They all reflect some higher truth, They all reflect the minds that made them But they cannot have all the answers, because a human mind is limited Because the voice of truth can be corrupted by translation Because we cannot guarantee their meaning stays the same through time My Higher Power rests in human hearts My Higher Power teaches me forgiveness My Higher Power takes no joy in someone else's pain My Higher Power needs no adversary, It needs no blame, no enemy, no war It steps out of the way and lets me make my choices It teaches me to learn from my mistakes, accept my limitations It helps me understand and to let go To strive, to help but also and never be complacent To find my love, find meaning, to go home.
