유럽 북서부에 위치한 튤립과 풍차의 나라 네덜란드 이곳 네덜란드 한 도시에서는 새로운 친환경 바람이 불고 있다. 혻 겉보기엔 여느 버스와 다를 바 없는 이 버스가 바로 그 주인공 노후된 디젤엔진 버스가 신개념 하이브리드 전기직구동방식의 친환경 자동차로 다시 태어났다. 혻 지금 전 세계는 친환경자동차 개발 열풍에 휩싸여 있다. 선두인 일본은 물론이고 유럽과 미국을 포함한 우리나라에서도 수천억 원을 들여 친환경자동차를 개발하는가 하면 상용화를 앞두고 있다. 혻 이런 상황은 온실가스에 의한 지구 온난화 문제 해결 차원에서 가장 먼저 시작된 조치이자 대책인 것이다. 혻 북극 빙하를 녹이는 등 각종 자연재해를 발생시키고 있는 지구온난화 발생 요인 중 25%는 자동차 배출가스에 의한 것이라는 연구 결과가 있기 때문이다. 혻 여기에 고갈돼가는 석유자원의 현실 또한 친환경자동차 개발열기를 부추기는 또 다른 원인이 되기에 충분하다. 혻 지금까지는 소극적 규제를 해온 EU가 최근 이산화탄소 배출량 문제에 매우 적극적인 관심과 규제를 병행하기 시작한 것도 주목할 만한 부분이다. 혻 전 세계적인 이런 분위기는 결국 친환경자동차 개발과제를 선택이 아닌 필수로 바꿔놓은 것이다. 혻 지구촌에 불고 있는 녹색바람으로 자동차시장이 급격한 지각변동을 겪고 있는 지금 녹색성장을 국가의 기치로 내세운 지금의 상황에서 이산화탄소 다량 배출국이란 오명을 벗기 위해 또 세계 친환경자동차시장을 선도 하기위해 이제는 더 이상 머뭇거릴 시간이 없다.
