福島第1原発の事故などによる夏の電力不足に対応するための対策が、この週末から本格的に始まった。自動車メーカー各社は2日から、電力需要が減る土曜日と日曜日に稼働する土日操業を始めた。三重・鈴鹿市のホンダ工場の門の前では、これから出勤する従業員の車が、列をつくっていた。従業員は「長い期間じゃないんで、我慢しないといけないのかなと思いますね」と話した。三重県のホンダ鈴鹿製作所では、土日操業のため、午前6時半の始業前に、従業員が車などで次々と出勤した。日産は土日操業に加え、工場の電力使用量を監視するシステムを使って、節電対策を始めた。電力使用量の多いときは、自家発電を組み合わせる。日産の担当者は「それら(使用量のデータ)を見ることで、全体の中で追浜工場の役割もわかりますし、全体の調整もできることになっています」と話した。午前7時すぎ、駅から出てくる多くの人々。広島県にある自動車メーカー「マツダ」の本社は、平日のような出勤風景が見られた。マツダの従業員は「ちょっと休日気分なんでしんどいです。(生活のリズム的には、きょうは何曜日みたいな感じしますか?)きょうは土曜日ですよね」と話した。一方で大変になるのが、休日の子育て。広島・熊野町にある「くまの・みらい保育園」でも、休日保育の問い合わせが相次いだ。母親の声に応え、くまの・みらい保育園では、日曜保育を実施することを決め、これまでに12人が申し込んだという。働く母親は「会社が出勤ということになりましたんで、すごく助かります。これ(休日保育)がなかったら、もう(仕事を)休んでました」と話した。マツダの土日操業は9月末まで続く予定。また環境省も、平日に休みが取れる代わりに、土曜日は出勤する輪番勤務が始まった。環境省の職員は「きょうがその初日なので、気合十分、頑張っていこうかなっていう感じですかね」、「(ご家族の方は、何かおっしゃってますか?)喜んでましたよ。(なんでいないと喜ぶんでしょうか?)それはなんででしょうかね。お母さんに聞いてください」などと話した。明かりを消して節電に取り組みながら、平日とは変わらない雰囲気の環境省。江田環境相は「かりゆし」で視察に訪れ、職員を激励した。企業の競争力を保つことで、節電の両立がこの夏の課題となる。
