MOONrock

MOONrock — Moonrock is an experimental form of filmmaking called abstract experientialism. This bold new look on how films are produced questions the very essence of a film by attempting to place the audience behind the camera while at the same time they are embedded within the story. The experience of following the characters through the prism of real feel camera angles allows the viewer, not the director, to shape the meaning. This simple premise places all of the power with the audience allowing for a plethora of new ideas that are as complex as the viewer is capable. Individual credit is supplanted by anonymous collaboration. One key factor in abstract experientialism is that fundamentals that are deemed significant in traditional filmmaking are shifted greatly, but the elements are still able to maintain the same degree of intensity. This new form allows the irrelevant to become relevant and vice versa while still maintaining the je ne sais quoi necessary for the audience to be invested and committed to the film. In Moonrock, this can be found in countless ways. The title is more important than the plot, a handshake more significant than the storyline, and the bloopers more memorable than the resolution. Yet even with the de-emphasis of these major elements, the viewers are still captivated by the ephemeral emotions expressed by the characters. Abstract experientialism can be difficult to appreciate at first and is not intended for the passive viewer. Allowing the brain to open up and expand to accept new definitions of films and filmmaking will help facilitate new and innovative ways to appreciate the experience. The creative argument put forth by this movement is that the process of seeing a film is as relevant as the film itself.
