How I Record Amp Demos - Video 1 of 3

After getting tons and tons of emails on youtube about my setup, wet dry explanation, mic’ing, etc, I've decided to cut to the chase and give you guys a run down of exactly what goes on with my recording, all the techniques I use, panning, mic'ing, mixing, you name it. Step by step! This first video is a description of the mics used, how they're setup, how they run to the firewire interface, how the recording software is setup to capture the audio and a description of the amp, wet dry setup and effects. Here is a full list of the equipment used. Guitar/amp port city 212 cab with each speaker wired with it's own speaker jack Shure SM57, Sennheiser MD421 II, Avantone CK1 condenser mic, Zoom H2 (probably won't be around much longer!) Peavey PV260 power amp THD hotplate Hardwire effects Radial bigshot splitter Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 firewire interface (this is a major key component IMO) Any multi channel interface will work though. a good rule of thumb is that 4 mic's is going to give you the best bare minimum sound. The more mic sources you have to work with in mixing, the more control you are going to have over the sound. Last but not least, a good camera is important! I use a Panasonic Lumix ZS7. You obviously don't HAVE to have one with tons of features, just one with decent 720p HD video capture. Canon has several much much cheaper cameras that do this.
