This clip makes available in a single clip three promotional spots for "Young Americans" (YA) aired on The WB network in 2000, in order to facilitate comparison of those clips, together with comments (in the clip and below) that may enhance appreciation of YA as dramatic art. As mentioned in the clip, it is not known whether these three promo sports for "Young Americans" are the only such spots aired on The WB in 2000, or, if not, how representative a sample they may be of all such promo spots. Furthermore, the content of televsion promo spots is ultimately determined by the network, not by the producers of the show being promoted. For both reasons, the evolution of content observed in these three promo spots has only weak implications for the evolution of the artistic intent of YA’s creator, Steven Antin, between his production of the unaired pilot in the autumn of 1999 and the broadcasting of the 8-episode series in July and August 2000. Nevertheless, it seems noteworthy that the earlier two promo spots, apparently dating from April and May 2000, focused exclusively on the characters of Will Krudski and Scout Calhoun, completely ignoring 'Jake" Pratt and Hamilton Fleming, while the latest promo spot, dated July 1, focuses exclusively on Pratt and Fleming.
