中国の前国家主席・江沢民氏が危篤状態であることがわかった。一部メディアでは死亡が報じられたが、中国政府はこれを否定している。中国政府筋によると、江沢民氏は脳出血で北京市内の病院に入院していて、危篤状態だという。江氏の容体をめぐっては、6日から一部の香港メディアなどが「死亡した」と報道し、インターネット上でも、一時死亡説が広がった。これに対し、国営・新華社は、「うわさ」だとして報道を否定し、外務省の報道官も記者会見で、江氏の容体などについてコメントしなかった。中国外務省は、7日の会見で「(死亡説を否定した)新華社のニュースで十分に説明されています」と発表した。江氏は、1993年から2003年まで国家主席を務め、引退後も共産党指導部に強い影響力を持つとされているが、7月1日の共産党創立90周年の式典に姿を見せなかったことから、健康不安が取りざたされていた。
