Serena Williams Suffers Pulmonary Embolism

www.mahalo.com Tennis star Serena Williams reportedly underwent emergency surgery earlier this week, after being rushed to a Los Angeles hospital with a pulmonary embolism. According to "People Magazine," the 29-year-old Williams "underwent emergency treatment" at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Monday, February 28, 2011. A rep for Williams told "People" that her client suffered a "hematoma" - the "result of treatment for a more critical situation" - a pulmonary embolism, which is a blood clot in the lungs. The rep says that Williams is being monitored closely by her doctors "to avoid additional complications." Serena Williams has taken time off from playing tennis while dealing with an injury - she hasn’t played since she won Wimbledon last year. According to Reuters, Williams has been dealing with the aftermath of a cut she sustained on her foot from "broken glass at a restaurant in Germany" in July of 2010. Reuters reports that Williams "has undergone at least two operations on her foot" since then. Williams' rep tells "People" that the blood clot was found shortly after Williams returned to California after seeing doctors in New York about her foot.
