Pierre-André Boutang et Gérard GUEGAN ont convié Bernard BESRET, ancien prieur de l’Abbaye de Boquen, philosophe, à expliquer sa personnalité si complexe, tout d'abord dans un autoportrait, puis sur le plateau de l'émission où il est entouré et questionné par : Michel de CERTEAUX, historien, Jésuite et membre de l'Ecole Freudienne ; François BILLETDOUX, écrivain ; Danièle HERRIOT LÉGER et Anouk ADELMANN.AUTOPORTRAIT : Bernard BESRET affirme aussitôt l'impossibilité de faire son autoportrait. Il se contentera donc de donner quelques jalons importants de son existence. Adolescent, poussé par une recherche d'absolu, il entre dans les ordres dans l'Abbaye cistercienne de Boquen, en Bretagne. Il passe ensuite 9 ans à Rome et participe en 1961 au Concile Vatican II. De retour en France, Il est nommé prieur de Boquen et devient Dom Bernard. L'Abbaye devient un lieu spirituel ouvert sur le monde, un centre de réflexion, mais aussi de contestation de l'Eglise traditionnelle. Bernard BESRET quitte l'Abbaye en 1974, pour poursuivre son chemin en dehors des institutions de l'Eglise. Il vit depuis une grave crise d'identité et se demande s'il est Bernard ou Jean-Claude, son nom de baptème. Il se demande comment, prêtre sans attaches, il va concilier son exigence de spiritualité et sa vie d'homme dans tous les aspects que cela représente : affectif, sexuel, social, intellectuel. Bernard BESRET ne croit plus à ce monde meilleur promis par l'Eglise, ni au "meilleur des mondes" des politiques. Il achève son portrait en évoquant sa mère, morte quand il avait treize ans. Ce drame l'a marqué à jamais, et chaque chose qu'il entreprend est une conquête au droit à l'existence, au delà d'une mort déjà vécue.Au cours du débat, Bernard BESRET, encouragé par les invités, précise certaines idées émises dans l'entretien filmé, entre autres son déchirement perpétuel entre un désir d'unité et la réalité si complexe. Il évoque l'expérience extraordinaire vécue à Boquen et le rôle de "leader" ...
