Lobo fans mixed over selling alcohol at games

if you’re planning on catching lobo football or basketball games this season... some of you will now be able to enjoy the game with a cold one. sharon erickson is live at the pit with details in today's big story. antoinette... after an eight month gridlock with the city ... u-n-m has been granted a liquor license. we've confirmed the "new mexico regulation and licensing department" approved the liquor license for sporting events at university stadium and the pit. but it wasn't an easy fight for u-n-m. in november... city council members denied u-n-m's waiver request ... based on a law that bans the sale of alcohol within 300- feet of a school. but in april, an aribitrator overturned that decision... saying the city was being inconsistent, because alcohol is served at isotopes park across the street. you still won't get to enjoy a cold beer if you're sitting in the cheap seats-- alcohol will only be served in suites and club- level areas, or to less than ten-percent or fans... something that doesn't sit well with students. "i guess if they're trying to generate revenue, probably the people that are going to spend a grand on a seat are gonna buy liquor." "it's elitest as hell. i'm not gonna go up there, i don't know anybody. i probably couldn't even afford it. but if i'm sitting in the stands an i'd like to drink a beer, then fine." the athletics department says servers will have significant training to help law enforcement make sure fans aren't over- served alcohol or driving intoxicated.
