Wasting water could cost you Details
Wasting water could cost you
if you water your lawn or wash your car during the hottest part of the day — you could join the growing number of people slapped with fines. misa maruyama rode along with an inspector -- and is live in the country club neighborhood with what they’re calling a disturbing trend. misa? the water authority says more people are getting these pink notes on their door before being slapped with fines -- some as hefty as two thousand bucks. the water authority wants to make sure you're not one of them. you could call shawn hardeman a water detective. he's hot on the trail -- eyes peeled for clues. that's part of the fun. we find water in the street and we chase it to the source. fun for him -- no fun for the homeowners. we caught this guy watering his lawn at about 3 this afternoon. he says he was testing his irrigation system -- but still got a violation. fines range from 20 dollars for the first violation -- to two thousand bucks for the every one after the eighth. how lenient are you guys? not very. the water authority has caught 50 percent more water violations so far this year compared to the same time last year -- bringing in 60 percent more in fines. obviously, more people are out overwatering their landscape - whether that's due to climate or what have you, we really have no idea. this restriction is different from the by water by the numbers -- which suggests how often you can water your lawn. this is a strictct ban on irrigating from 11 in the morning to seven at night. if you break the rules - expect this guy at your door. just the smallest trickle of water hitting the public right of way will get you busted. meaning you can't let water flow onto the sidewalk when you wash your car or drain your pool ... any time of day.
